The scourge of stone or tiled garden patios is ugly green mold that covers the grouting. It’s really difficult to get off but I have found this method works wonders and is quick and easy too.
- Fill a large watering can with water and add a good dose of household bleach. Slowly pour this over the grouting and allow it to work for 10 minutes or so.
- Take a stiff garden broom and go along the grouting, giving it a good scrub.
- Rinse off with a hosepipe or bucket of fresh water.
Top Tip
I’ve also found bleach diluted in water works in getting stains out of the surface of York stone flags. I have a rambling rose and the birds and squirrels tend to squash the rosehips into the surface of the stone leaving ugly black marks. The best method is prevention – pick up any fallen hips before the birds get to them, or make rosehip syrup. If you can’t manage that then the bleach will eventually do the trick but it may take several applications.
