I am rather puzzled as to why Make it and mend it is veering towards more of an advertising site than a site for those who really want to Make It And Mend It - home maker gifts for example - more like an advert for Graham and garden . Whats going on ??

Hi Sara Thanks for your comment and the thought behind it and please don't worry, MIAMI will always be a site for people who are into making, mending and creative sustainability. This means great content, a strong community and - what we'd really like to do for members - great benefits, such as best buys, discounts and offers. We love doing this and have big ambitions for MIAMI. We want the balance between our content, member content and commercial content to be right and useful and relevant for everyone. We also need to make money to invest back into the business and to pay ourselves (one day!). So if we can create revenue by recommending the kind of tools, equipment and books make and menders might like for Christmas we figure everyone benefits (especially if you can turn stuff on our lists into your own wish lists). Likewise, we're developing advertising on the site. Ultimately, we want all our ads to be relevant and useful as well so if you'd like to see certain kinds of products or services supported let us know - and let's see what kind of deals we can get for you as well. All the team really appreciate your feedback and please be assured our plans are very much centred around making sure that Make it and Mend it is a place you can trust as well as enjoy. Please keep writing! More comments please!

mmmm I've just had another look at your ' About Us ' statement , I still dont think it chimes well to have not a one made or mended or recycled gift for us to do , on the gifts for homemakers section . I have nothing against graham and garden per se but they have their ads in the posh mags etc and though I know you would like to be able to pay yourselves It would be more intesting to me for one to see a few less of the 'silk and mohair throw' and more of the sort of thing a strapped for cash household can give Dad for christmas. Cheers for now

We have got lots of articles rolling out over the next couple of weeks including a whole section on DIY gifts going up this week. We also have making decorations from things you find in your home and garden (even old Christmas cards), ideas for home made gifts and cards, and getting the best from your leftovers. We understand your point, but we also recognise that not everybody wants to, or can make their own presents and these gifts are about inspiring others to have a go at making and mending or helping people save a few pennies. In the case of the home section this is about finding a few accent pieces that can lift a room without the need for redecorating, or provide a bit of warmth without having to whack up the central heating. Please keep writing and sending us your ideas about what you want to see here!
