This step by step guide shows you how to make fabulous Christmas decorations from junk mail and left over paper. These cheap, but really effective stars will liven up your Christmas home.
Your will need
- Wastepaper
- Scissors
- Glue Stick/ PVA glue
- Plastic gem for decoration.
Step one

Find your waste paper – you can use any old paper for this project; junk mail, old wrapping paper, old magazines or even brown paper carrier bags like these.
Step two

Cut your paper into triangles. The size of triangle will depend on the effect you are trying to achieve and how large you want the stars, but a good starting point is about 5cms wide by about 12 cms long.
Step three

Take one triangle and lay it face down. Using the glue stick glue the side uppermost (wrongside)
Step Four

With glue side up, starting with the wider end roll the piece of paper into a tube. Repeat with the rest of the triangles and leave to dry thoroughly.
Step Five

Cut a small circle and lay it flat.
Step Six

Put glue on upperside of circle. Take your tubes and place around the edge of the glued circle. You may need to add more PVA glue to the tubes to make sure that they completely secured. Don’t worry if it looks a bit of a mess at this stage as the glue will dry clear and you won’t be able to see it.
Step Seven

Once the star is completely dry take a plastic gem and stick it in the centre of your star. Leave to dry.

You can make these stars from any materials – these stars are made from old Christmas wrapping paper and make really bright decorations for your tree.

good way to sell your plastic gems! you could use Wisteria seeds which are popping all over now.
