These clever little stars are really cheap and easy to make, but don’t look it! They can be used to decorate your Christmas tree, hung from light fittings or used as clever little gift tags. Along with revamped Christmas baubles and your own handmade felt hearts, you’ll cut the cost of decorating your home this Christmas.
You will need
Old cereal packets- wastepaper/junkmail for decoration
- craft knife
- PVA glue
- Paint brush
Step one
x
Open out your cereal packet and mark out the shape you want to make. You’ll need to mark out 2 shapes for each decoration. I’ve used a star pattern for this decoration and an old cookie cutter as a template.
Cut out your shapes. You can use scissors, but I find a craft knife gives a better finish
Step two
x
Using your craft knife score the lines from the tip of the star into the centre.
Turn the star over and score the lines from the corners into the centre

Step three

x
Attach a cord to hang the stars inside one of the shapes.
Step four

x
Place to the stars together and secure. You can use tape for this, but scraps of paper glued in position work just as well.
Step five
x
Cut out small shapes from your wastepaper – I used some old music and wrapping paper for these stars.
Water the PVA glue down a little and mix thoroughly.
Apply the pieces of paper to the stars with PVA glue.
Step six

Once you’ve covered the entire star leave to dry thoroughly.
Apply a coat of varnish
Step Seven
Hang your decoration up and let others admire your handiwork!
