One of the best ways to encourage children to eat vegetables is to get them growing them. Cress is a great starting point because it’s dead easy and really quick to grow. More to the point, children can have real fun designing the faces.
- Egg shells
- Cotton wool
- Mustard and cress seeds
- Pens etc for decoration
Step 1 – cook the eggs
Boil eggs in the usual way but when you eat them be very careful as you slice off the top of the egg. Eat the egg gently so as not to break the shell.
Fill the shell 2/3 full with cotton wool. It will swell up so don’t fill the shell too full.
Step 2 – add water
Add water to the cotton wool
Step 3 – add the seeds
Sprinkle some cress seeds on top of the cotton wool and put filled shell into an egg cup.
Step 4 – the face
Use the pens to very gently draw a face on the shell. Encourage the kids to get as creative as they want and give their eggheads character.
Step 5 – care
Water your egghead every day and it should start sprouting ‘hair’ in 2-3 days.
