When we came across 101 Great Ways to Sew a Metre, we just knew that…
Christmas wouldn’t be Christmas without a stocking hanging by the fire and these stockings are perfect for little ones to make. These can be made from any old scraps of material. Decorated to suit your taste, these stockings will look great hanging all over the house and could even be used as your own homemade advent calender.
You’ll find a downloadable template that you can use to cut out your stocking shape at the bottom of this article.
A sheet of felt or scraps of fabric (I’ve used felt for these stockings because it is so easy for children to work with and it doesn’t need hemming. But you can use fabric if you want. I’ve made these Christmas stockings previously using scraps of brocade and silk.)
Download and cut out the template.
Fold fabric in half and pin template to it.
Alternatively, you could use two pieces of fabric in contrasting colours.
Cut out the shape.

Stitch the two pieces together leaving the top open.
You can use glue to stick the pieces together if you don’t want to sew.
Attach a ribbon to back seam of the opening so you can hang your stocking up.
